Alpaca fiber, in contrast to Wool, is special because Wool has lanolin, which some people are allergic to.

More importantly, though a few people are allergic to lanolin, the reason that lower grades of wool (sheep) are irritating to the skin has to do with the physical stucture of the individual wool fibers.
