Most alpaca ranchers won't make a profit off of selling fiber, however, but co-ops and pools have formed around the country to market the product. (Think of fiber as a way to off-set the expenses of running your farm).

In fact, one of the largest is the Alpaca Fiber Cooperative of North America. Many times fiber is exchanged for discounts on products that can then either be sold online or at a ranch store.

Did you know that other co-ops sell the fiber and pay back the rancher based on the quantity and quality of fiber sent in.
